Approaching Papua New Guinea from the outside, never having been there, all I am left with are the museum displays in Berlin’s Ethnological Museum as well as books written about Papua that I can read. Looking at the boats and houses in the museum, I bring together the images in front of my eyes with the words I have read, now stuck in my mind. Different forms of memories – second-hand images, memoires and objects which now represent a culture no longer in existence in this form – come together in my paintings.
